D.I.Y.__Waxed Jeans

In recent times, I have not been liking my capris cut jeans that much. They were becoming too plain. I know having a plain pair of pants is a good thing, but since the length of the jeans were not longer, I had to change them up. This is going back to my new goal of minimizing my life. Instead of getting rid of something to buy something new, I thought I would first try to revamp them by giving them a new look.

Supplies needed
-a pair of jeans
-otter wax: bought off of amazon
-dye: if you want to change the color

Step 1: dye your jeans if wanted
I dyed my jeans to a darker wash by dyeing them in black. I was originally wanting to go black, however I like that it didn't turn out that way.

Step 2: Start Rubbing on the wax
The process of this D.I.Y. is very simple, it just takes some time to get the wax on to the desired look. I only waxed the front of my pants and that took about 45min.  I was also going for a leathery look which is why I applied the wax heavily. To make it even you can take a blow dryer and soften the wax more on the pants and then use your fingers to movie it around. I didn't use the blow dryer and just used my fingers since I didn't want a perfect look.

Step 3: Let it cure
This mainly means leave it in a cool-dry place for at least 24 hrs before wearing. To clean your new pair of pants, the packaging on the Otter Wax says to just use a brush and brush off any dirt that may have accumulated. For the parts that are not waxed, if you left any part not waxed, just spot clean.

I hope you enjoy your new pair of pants and would love to see what your pair of pants/shorts look like. I am thinking of waxing my converse shoes as well, so I will put pictures up when I get around to it.

Music Monday___Great Gatsby Soundtrack

So I couldn't just choose one song for this week. The Great Gatsby soundtrack has been on repeat for me in the past week. I love the artists they took and modern music and made it sound like it could have been made in the 20s, if the 20s was now. Go listen. Here are a few songs from the soundtrack that are my favorite.

Young and Beautiful__Lana del Ray

A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All we Got)__Fergie, Q-Tip, GoonRock
Back to Black__Beyonce and André 3000

Music Monday___California Dreamin by Kid Ink

So I have been missing California and the sun and the warmth. I am excited to see Cali on Wednesday and spend the whole summer there before I leave for Paris in August. I thought this was definitely putting me in the mood to pack up and ship out.

Minimizing my life

In the process of packing up all of my stuff to ship home for the summer and for when I am abroad, I realized that I have really accumulated way too much clothing. It is not just clothing that has been accumulated to excess, but also art supplies/ and sewing supplies and make-up. Through this process and the past couple of weeks leading to this, I have finally admitted to myself that I am a "pre" horder. And with this knowledge, I am going to take a new aspect on my fashion sense.

Don't get me wrong, I love fashion and I LOVE shopping. However, I don't really have the sufficient funds to shop all the time, neither am I at the point in my life where I can afford to have a lot of clothes, having the major of being a  fashion design student. And so I will be embarking on a project or challenge for myself. I am not going to be buying any new clothing or make-up unless it is something that I really need, to replace something that is worn out or gone. Or I am buying something because I really love it and have thought about it for more than a one day shopping trip.

So what this really means is that I am going to save my money for the pieces that I really want. Clothing of great quality and design. I want to buy clothing that I know that I can't live without and know that I will wear it for at least 4+ years.  I want to wear the expensive clothes, or at least clothes that I will love for a long time. Since I have not fully found my style that really defines me, if I am into a certain trend, I am going to make it a D.I.Y project. ( which I have a few in mind) I will put some effort in it, but I won't put my wallet into it. I will then find things already in my closet that I can reinvent if I'm not loving it anymore or to go to the local thrift store and find something there. I may even sew the garment myself, making it unique to me.

So some stores I will be avoiding for a while though; Forever21 and H&M. These two stores are way too much into fast cheap fashion. These are my things that I am trying to get rid of in my life. In regards to make-up, I will be avoiding the drugstore make-up aisles. I have been a slave to cheap make-up for to long and need to start investing in  make-up that is better for my skin and better for my needs.

Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf's

So if anyone has not heard about this movie/documentary which is in selected theaters now....GO SEE!!! This movie is about the iconic Bergdorf Goodman department store located in Manhattan NYC on 50th and Fifth Avenue. I will have to say that before going to see the movie, I did go into the department store, where I was able to go into their shoe salon (which has infinite selection of designer shoes) and touch Fendi and Prada clothing. Then going to see the movie, it just made me so inspired. The reason this movie made me inspired because now it is my goal to have my clothing sold at Bergdorf Goodman. It the top ranking department store and they can "make" a designer.

I don't want to give too much away about the documentary, but I have to just tell everyone who loves fashion or documentaries should watch this ASAP.

April/May Inspirations

So I know that I have been M.I.A for the past couple of months, but this semester has been very hectic. However, since the school year is almost over. I thought I would come back and start with a monthly  inspiration post

Music

So for music. A lot of things have been inspiring me this past few months. So to make up for the posts I haven't done, I thought I would give you a few songs.

White Foxes by Susanne Sundfor

The reason for including this song, besides the fact that it is just an amazing song. I love finding new artists who are from other countries. Her voice is amazing and I hope you love it as much as I do. Also another song that I love by her is "The Brothel."

Brotherswing by Caravan Palace
The reason for me including this song is that it just makes me want to start dancing. It is a happy song and has helped me through hell week to stay happy.

Blog: Love Aesthetics
http://love-aesthetics.blogspot.com/

I will have to say that I havent been inspired by many blogs recently, but when I stumbled upon this one I just fell in love instantly. I am not much of a minimalist when it comes to my design or lifestyle. However, after browsing pages from her blog and watching all of her videos, I am wanting to adopt minimalism a little bit into my life. Her DIYs are genius and I think I will be doing some of those once I get back home.

What I love about this youtube are the DIYs. They are simple and very creative. I hope to do some of the projects over the summer.

Clothes

Here are few things that I would love to rock this summer. Snapbacks, overalls, and chiffon tops. I don't really look toward trends when it comes to summer clothing since I am more interested in Fall/Winter clothing. However, I do know that I will be rocking some 90s inspiration since I love to incorporate grunge when ever I can.

In the City Today

I am done with school for the semester so now I am spending some time with my mom today in the City (NYC) before I head off to visit my Grandma and then back to Los Angeles. So far we have hit the gym at our fabulous hotel, The Towers at the Palace, and now we are going to get dressed and explore the city as any person would do.
